The rank superstition and the counterfeit miracles that are being spawned out of Charismatic circles are as great a blithe on the church and as great a danger to the well-being of believers as the mysticism and the false doctrine that existed in the medieval church prior to the Protestant Reformation. The rest (the remaining 8% of the 22000 denominations) are smaller than the above, and the majority of these are Protestant as well. which I'll admit appears to be a large number (considering there are only 242 total "Roman Catholic denominations" -- see below).

But their claims to have spiritual gifts are demonstrably false. If you believe that scripture teaches the gifts haven't ceased, fine. But you should also compare modern supposed gifts with the Biblical ones and realise that they are totally different and therefore fake Evangelism after Christendom: The Theology and Practice of Christian Witness. The initial years of euphoria seemed to be inexorably disappearing into the hard light of reality. This reality was that, for the most part, and despite widely scattered acceptance of the CCR in local parishes across the country, the Catholic Church had not as a whole been receptive to it Waterspouts of Glory. The claim is made that this event is being paralleled in widespread Christian experience today. But again, the case for this collapses since the most knowledgeable Scripture scholars maintain that the initial Pentecostal experience was confined to the Apostles (and the Mother of God), and was not in fact shared by the 120 Christians who are mentioned in Acts 1:15.17 The Pentecost event was pre-eminently a manifestation of the Spirit among the members of the Apostolic hierarchy, and if we are to look at it as a model for latter-day speaking in tongues, then the tongues should rightfully appear among the members of the hierarchy! — and not to every Tom, Dick and Harry, or, as Martin Luther once expressed it: As far as the modern revival of the gift of "prophecy" is concerned (and prophecy is considered here in the biblical sense, not so much as future prediction, but rather as the courageous proclaiming of the facts of Christ before the people), it is disconcerting to acknowledge that at Catholic Pentecostal meetings (often attended by many Protestants) those doctrines which are uniquely Catholic, e.g., the Papacy, the visible oneness of the Church, devotion to the Virgin Mother of God, the veneration and intercession of the Saints, the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, etc., are conspicuously absent GOD, The Bible and You: Timeless Truths to Impact Your Life (God & Faith Book 2).

Called "a pioneer contribution" by Church History when it was first published in 1971 as The Holiness-Pentecostal Movement in the United States, this volume has now been revised and enlarged by Vinson Synan to account for the incredible changes that have occurred in the church world during the last quarter of the twentieth century Have You Received Since You Believed?. Some branches of Pentecostalism (for example, the so-called “faith churches”) have identified themselves particularly around this sensitivity, emphasizing the value of understanding biblical principles and then of developing the “skills” of placing confident faith in those principles, thus assuring their concrete fulfillment in life What the Devil Saw On the Day of Pentecost. In a section titled "How Big is the Movement" Wagner quotes David Barrett of World Christian Trends. Wagner stated that by 1996 Barrett had documented 1000 apostolic networks on his database and "that he would estimate at that point considerably more than 100 million new apostolic adherents worldwide." This may sound outrageous to those who have not been following the meteoric global rise of the New Apostolic Reformation Transparency.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit must be studied in the larger Biblical context of the Holy Spirit and His spiritual gifts. One of the themes that appears prominently in both Testaments represents the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Power who gives special gifts to the people of God in order to enable them to serve Him according to His will. In Old Testament times it was the Spirit who gave the rulers and military leaders the ability to govern in times of emergency. (1 Sam. 10:1-7; 16:13) He gave the judges of Israel physical strength, courage, and wisdom to wage war against the enemies of God's people (Judg. 3:7-10; 6:33 ff) You May All Prophesy. This teaching is not affirmed by all in the Pentecostal movement. The Pew report found that overall, the number of Christians around the world has more than tripled from historical estimates of approximately 600 million in 1910, to more than two billion today Really...What Would Jesus Do?: A Short Story from "Amazed by the Power of God". Pentecostal and charismatic movements have maintained a somewhat tumultuous and multifaceted relationship with the larger body of Protestant Christians worldwide. By "Protestant" we are referring in broad terms to one of the three main branches of Christianity today (the others being Catholicism and Orthodoxy) The Decree of Esther: Changing the Future through Prophetic Proclamation. Pentecostalism not only began by reforming various doctrines of the past, but still today one of the goals of this movement is the continuing reformation of the church in these areas. Pentecostalism is a restoration movement. It began with a belief that in its origin God was restoring New Testament Christianity to the church today by bringing a discovery and recovery of certain truths and experiences of the Spirit Dancing with Destiny: Awaken Your Heart to Dream, to Love, to War.
