Many of them (and this has been reiterated to me by people who have come to our church, from other large Pentecostal churches in the area) live under a strange and bizarre doctrine that they never articulate, but it is definitive in the movement, and it is the doctrine of the "Sovereignty of Satan." They expect the baptism in the Holy Spirit to be demonstrated by an accompanying gift, although they do not insist that this must be tongues. When Jesus said: Peace be unto you, it meant their sins were forgiven, and at that moment they could receive the Holy Ghost.

Paul spoke of a second form of tongues to the Corinthians, we must admit a distribution of gifts. It certainly appears that more than a few receive it. It is possible that anyone and everyone willing to surrender may receive this "gift." Furthermore, among all the gifts, tongues is considered of secondary, not primary importance. It is referred to in only six of the 260 chapters of the New Testament, and the great majority of space given to it is devoted to correcting the widespread abuse of the gift at one particular church (I Cor. 12-14) epub.
